July 9, 2011 - 7th DLSU Mathematics and Statistics Camp day 1
Yesterday, I attended Math Camp in DLSU. I was excited to see La Salle since I barely see their campus. Their buildings never fails to awe me. Seriously.
We arrived in La Salle at around 8AM. We entered their Br. Andrew Gonzales Hall. While walking through the building, my friends and I suddenly realized that the college aura is so different from the high school aura. It kinda creeped me out. Haha. We fall in line for the elevator. The venue was in the 14th floor. We registered and paid first then they gave us our name tags and materials.
The room was pretty clean. I felt like an authentic college student. LOL. We sat in the 1st and 2nd row so we were infront. We started it with a prayer of course. Since the speaker wasn’t there yet, we played a game entitled “Ultimate Ninja WAH *insert pose here*” Haha. Seriously, there’s a pose for the “wah!” part. Ate Stella and Peaches represented our school for this game. The game was so funny. Luckily, Ate Stella got into the “finals”. She fought with a guy/gay from Immaculada (?) but as I expected, the guy won.
The speaker then arrived. She’s Ms. Sonia Tan, one of the teachers from the Mathematics department. She taught us about the relation of the number theory to the calendar. At first, my friends and I were really caught off guard because we can’t understand a thing. Finally, when she gave us this formulas we got it! We felt like as if we were Math pros. Haha. We can now solve for any date and know what days it falls. Naks.
After the first lecture, we had another game. The game that proved our girl power! In the game, the facilitators will tell us how many feet and hands we can only use. This game really made me laugh like crazy. Other schools were having a hard time thinking of strategies they’ll use while CSR was just in chill mode. In the end, we won against Elizabeth Seton School. Aww yeah!
The second speaker of the day, Mr. Jasper Cheng gave a short talk about his job and course. It was boring because a.) He’s so soft-spoken b.) I can’t understand a thing c.) I don’t like the topic. Hehe. He talked about actuarial science. The next speaker was so gorgeous. She graduated Magna Cumlaude with the course BS Mathematics with Business Appications last 2007. Right now, she has a high position in a private bank! (To think she just graduated 4 years ago.) Beauty and brains indeed. Her name is Ms. Patricia Palanca.
The most awaited time came at last. Lunch time! We went to the sports building and ate at their cafeteria. The lunch was yummy. Grilled pork with mushroom sauce (I think.), potato salad (na 2 piraso lang. Hahaha), brownies and orange juice. We went to the 6th floor canteen after because we were still hungry. After that, we decided to go back to the room but unfortunately, the elevator button won’t press. We no choice but to take the STAIRS. From the 6th floor to the 14th floor. It was so tiring!! I was panting a lot when I got back to the room and drank half of the water from my water bottle.
The next lecture started at around 1:20PM. The speaker was Mr. Rigor Ponsones. He discussed about the number 2. He was hella funny and there were no boring parts during his discussion. The last lecture of the day was from Mr. Paolo Bautista. He discussed about probability which was very interesting. Like the first lecture, I got the lesson in end.
We grouped ourselves first before leaving for the Amazing Race on Saturday. I was sad because I don’t have a group mate from CSR unlike the others. Huhu. Socializing skills, work with me! lol.
I seriously enjoyed this Math Camp. I’m looking forward for the part 2 on July 16!
